In this Thrifting For Profit Podcast we discuss … Selling on Amazon FBA – Our Business 2013 and Growth Ideas 2014.
Today Jessica Larrew is helping on the podcast. Jessica is a master at selling on Amazon FBA and has a website and a fairly new Amazon FBA Bootcamp that is amazing. You can get a FREE guide called “Why Selling On Amazon FBA Works” right on her website.
A Look Back At Our Business In 1013 Including The Holiday Season
We talked in depth about Jessica’s Holiday Toy Selling guide the last time she was on the podcast… and I can only stand up and shout from the rooftop… get this guide! If you are going to sell toy’s next year (during the 4th quarter) – this guide will really help you remove all the garbage and focus.

December was amazing for my business and business growth. I have talked in the past about my horrible experience the first year I sold toys on Amazon here:
Holiday Scouting For Cash Strapped Amazon Sellers. (Note – this is the very first podcast so it’s a bit different than current podcasts). I talk about my Holiday Toy Selling Frenzy!
Jessica and I share stories about this past Holiday selling season on Amazon.
- We both Merchant Fulfilled products – Why and How.
- We bought products online for store pickup – Why and How.
- I shared (often) with Jessica how well I was doing in toys this year. She just kept giving virtual “high-fives”. I was amazed at my progress… she (because she had been through a few successful holiday seasons) was not surprised at all.
- Why we both are not focused on selling Toys year ’round.
- How our “other” products carried us into December – these are the things you should always be focused on adding to your inventory.
NOTE: Debra says “Don’t let your “regular” products get out of stock. Jan. has not seen good sales for me – I purged a bunch of inventory AND let stock levels of regularly carried merchandise get down to “0”. Not a good plan… just saying.
Amazon Business Growth Ideas For 2014
Changing With The Times
I have been avoiding switching over to the new shipping workflow. Well… now I’ve got to learn how to use it (uggghhh):
From Amazon: “The new Shipment Creation Workflow will replace the original shipment workflow in Seller Central on March 31, 2014.”
Okay… so how was I going to get up to speed quickly? Aha! Jessica to the rescue. Jessica has a course that is specifically created for Brand New (you don’t even have a seller account) Amazon sellers. As I’m not a NEW seller… why would I need this course?
Last week (on the podcast) I shared that education was always important… it’s especially important to me if I want to keep my business growing and moving forward. I do not have time to “figure out the how-to of any process”, if someone has already done all the heavy lifting for me.
Getting Back To Using Inventory Lab
It’s so important to have processes that help with the work load we all have. I’ve used inventory lab and other listing services in the past. Last year I purged just about every service and went back to basics – and started listing directly in Amazon Seller Central. It’s easy enough to list products right in Amazon, but if I’m going to step up my game plan… then I need to start bringing back in the heavy hitters.
Jessica shows you exactly – I mean EXACTLY – how to list and ship products right in Amazon Seller Central AND she also has a huge tutorial for setting up and using Inventory Lab
Because I am growing the replenish-able side of my business – I need better number crunching. What inventory lab will do for me that Godaddy Online Book-keeping won’t do (a free service that I love for easily analyzing your entire business as a whole).. is give me “numbers” that are extremely useful when planning for my business growth. I absolutely do NOT want to create my own spreadsheets ever again.
Selling More Locally (and online) Sourced Replenish-able Products
Jessica and I both agree that one of the key components to our business growth is selling things that Amazon buyers want Every Day! We are both working on developing a system (each our own personal system) that will help us get products quickly and keep them in stock on Amazon FBA. By working on developing our systems NOW – we will both have them in place well before the Hot Selling Season and we won’t have to worry about keeping those products in stock.
When Jessica told me she was going to step into more retail arbitrage this year… my jaw dropped. I mean she IS the queen of Liquidation Store buying/selling (totally different animal than regular retail arbitrage).
Selling Health And Beauty Products
I’m on the warpath to get really comfortable in this category. This IS my growth goal for Jan. 2014 and I’ve been working on it everyday. I have bought and sent in some Health and Beauty items… and have already sold a few. Some for great profits and some – well…. let’s just say they were part of my learning curve.
This is a HUGE category and Jessica and I discuss why we think this is a great category to add to your product sourcing list.
Jessica did a webinar specificaly about buying & selling health and beauty products – it is well worth the $27 if you have no idea where to even start sourcing products.
Selling Higher Ticket Products
Jessica reminds us that when you are first starting to sell on Amazon – selling lower priced products (and a wide variety) is great. BUT… we should all be striving to sell higher ticket products once we are comfortable with the process.
Plus – learning when to “buy them all” is something that comes with experience and WILL help grow our business.

NOTE: Jessica is the Perfect Teacher! Her voice is calm and reassuring – but not boring. I could not find one thing missed or an unanswered question. I have been asked many times to create a course for beginners… but, why would I? Jessica provides all the help and hand-holding any new seller could ask for. 🙂
Okay… Have A Great Weekend and Profitable Sourcing!
That’s my story… and I’m sticking to it…
Next week’s show….
