I got the itch to go thrifting last night and I know that the Goodwill stays open until 9 pm. It was also senior Tuesday which gives me an extra 25% off everything. Good enough reason to go scouting.
We only have 2 Goodwill stores in my area and I wanted to hit both of them. I had been to both stores over the weekend – which means that I will see familiar things I’ve already scanned and passed on. This makes the shopping much quicker.
This is “speed scouting” at it’s finest (which we teach you how to do in our Thrifting for Profit: The Amazon Way Guide).
First Goodwill Thrifting Haul
I hit the books and media section first… because it’s right by the front door.
Next – a quick gander through the clothing section – NO I’m not buying clothing… each rack has a shelf of holiday (this time of year it’s Halloween) products. I’m looking for the pricy collectible stuff and Wilton cake pans. (yes – even used Wilton cake pans bring good money on Amazon).
I passed rather quickly through the office supply and craft section.
Then off to my favorite area – Games.
12 Minutes To The Next Goodwill Thrift Store
Yikes – I only had half an hour to shop the second Goodwill. Got to be quick about it. I didn’t spend much time in books… I did take the time to look over the text books and found one good buy… it only had an ISBN (no bar-code) but it was worth the trouble.
I then scooted over to the games section.
A quick pass through the household goods was worth it… even if the girls up front were trying to encourage me to finish shopping and check out.
I found a few “new in box” items that sell quickly (usually within an hour of checking into the Amazon warehouse).
I Can Return To GoodWill Thrift Stores
These are receipts from the Goodwill – very short.
You can see some red marks on these receipts – these are items I ended up returning. I don’t mind returns – I just turn around and buy “Great” stuff on my next trip thrifting.
My original spend (combined) at these two stores: $37.32
I returned $11.24
Total overall spend : $26.08
Already Shipped And Sold
This thrifting haul has already shipped to Amazon – checked in and 2 items sold within the first hour.
Total sales of just these two products: $114.90
My income after Amazon Fees: $95.92
Cost for these 2 products at Goodwill: $9
Cost for shipping to Amazon: $1
Was it worth the trip to the Goodwill and Speed Scouting? Yep…. I made $85.92 on just two of the products and I still have 11 more “Great” products to sell.
